Overview
The Hill avionics and electrical team is responsible for building key in-house avionics systems for the HX/HC50 helicopter, including the cockpit displays system, engine controllers, power management units, flight control computer, landing gear controllers and more. Become part of this fast-moving development team, work with motivated engineers to advance the general aviation industry.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of key in-house avionics hardware and embedded software development and testing across the product life cycle.
- Drive electrical architecture, specification, component selection, circuit board design, implementation, verification, board building and development.
- Work closely with mechanical teams for interface requirements, housing and placement considerations.
- Design test setups and hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing.
- Perform testing on avionics systems and determine root cause of off-nominal behaviour.
- Design and justify avionics system architecture to rigorous internal and certification standards.
- Manage parallel development threads using third-party contractors and manufacturing.
- Identify opportunities for risk reduction and removal of complexity in systems.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electrical, computer engineering or related discipline.
- At least 1 year of experience in electronics hardware design.
- At least 1 year of experience with electrical test equipment and processes.
- At least 1 year of embedded software development experience.
Technical Skills / Experience
- Strong understanding of computers and programming languages (Python, C/C++)
- Familiarity with aviation certification standards (DO-254, DO-178, DO-160, etc.)
- Experience with PCB design software such as Altium
- Experience managing hardware development projects from concept to end-product.
- Ability to design and test analogue, digital and mixed-signal circuits.
- Knowledge of model-based software development and experience utilizing model-based methods for embedded system development.
- Practical experience with digital communications interfaces including RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, ARINC 429, Ethernet.
- Knowledge of sensors and instrumentation methods for temperature, pressure, vibration, frequency, etc.
- Knowledge of common circuit blocks including filters, power supplies and microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with various microcontrollers including but not limited to: STM32 Family, TI C2000, NXP-iMX8, etc.
- Familiarity managing tasks and projects from start to finish.
- Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organisation, communication and documentation skills.
- Software testing experience using static analysis and code coverage tools, worst case execution time analysis, and requirements compliance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

* This is not a remote position. This is an on-site role that requires daily attendance at our Production Centre One facility in Stafford, UK.
